The wonder worker.
An artist that you cannot pinpoint, AXHONE is strong of a diverse and sound professional experience.
He is driven by multiple passions, ranging from architecture, design and scenography , to nature, surfing, and all sorts of extreme sports activities.
Through his work, AXHONE shows his triumph over the illness he carries. A beauty lying in the battles he wages and wins against the invasion of a illness they thought irreversible, this is his gift to the world. And what does he make of a confinement that had him believe himself forever layed low? Of a seemingly never-ending imprisonment? A world, a land, a universe.
Showcasing an astounding metamorphosis of his nerves, the tube-ish shape, which should have been a symbol of self-destruction, became one of beginnings, freedom and beauty. The artist’s hand now works moves within a circle that is no longer a hurdle, but a rebirth. The nerve fiber, however aborted it may be, still grows, works, strives and creates some sort of vibrant and restless crowd, and from the core of the painting, unfathomable starting point, we witness a path expanding towards freedom, towards victory.
AXHONE’s paintings depict hope itself. In quite the paradox, when we follow him through his work process, and through the fastidious creation of the perfectly constructed structure of his paintings, we may be led to believe that the creative aspect ends in a sterile formalism, yet the exact opposite happens; the entanglement of similar shapes all contribute to an irresistible dynamism. Throughout his works, we discover his very personal representation of his own histology, born from his imagination.
His renderings give meaning to the mixing of different parts of the nervous system. We get a peek on the biological lens of his vision on his own illness; we can observe axons, myelin, nodes of Ranvier and Schwann cells, nystagmus, oligodendrocyte, all scientific terms that the painter knows well, and that he defines to us with the shapes and colors his hand offers them.
AXHONE transforms scientific realism into artistic creations, in which the components of nerves defy the disease’s lifespan. This gives a unique work of art, that of an artist who evades from his suffering all while being clear of mind and aware of it. There may lay his victory, and the hope he inspires his audience.
